About Foshan

Foshan, a thriving manufacturing powerhouse with more than a thousand years of history, is a prefecture-level city in the central part of Guangdong Province, located in the hinterland of the Pearl River Delta. Neighbouring Guangzhou to the east and linked to Hong Kong and Macau by high-speed rail, the city forms an important node of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. Foshan has long been known as one of China’s Four Great Ancient Towns, and as the cradle of Cantonese opera and Lingnan martial arts. Since the Reform and Opening Up policy in 1978, it has grown into a global hub for home appliances, ceramics, furniture and textiles, home to brands such as Midea and Galanz. For travellers, the city shows much attraction through its famous sights such as the Ancestral Temple, the ancient Nanfeng Kiln and the Cantonese flavours of Shunde.

Foshan is considered the paradise for gourmands in south China. Its dishes represent Cantonese Cuisine well, which is one of the most famous eight Chinese cuisines, and its Shunde district is a UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy. With the fame of the shoppers’ heaven with ton of quality goods at affordable prices, the city is prosperous with various kinds of commercial streets. Lingnan Tiandi and Zumiao Road commercial area, full of time-honored brands and modern shopping malls, is the most traditional and popular among the locals. Huagai Road Pedestrian Street in Daliang is the best choice for seafood and dried food. Shiwan Town is the right place for curios and tourist souvenirs, from Shiwan ceramic figurines and Foshan paper-cuts to gambiered Canton silk.
